2. Does the off grid system require temperature control or will it be installed in a shady well ventilated area? 

​

3. Will i need a system that can be built on for future expansion of the property, does the solution you pick have this future proofing in mind?

4. Do you want an off-grid system that has warranty with one manufacturer or are you looking for a system that uses a variety of components?

UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE OF KW VS KWH

 

Understanding the relationship between KW and KWH requirement is a very important key part of picking the right system. 

​

To simplify, KW rating of the inverter within an off-grid package refers to how much instant energy you can consume at your peak draw. For example, should you want to turn on an electric oven which draws 4000w then turn on the tap which powers your water pump you could easily be at 5000w of energy draw with these two simple devices. 

​

The KWH [battery storage capacity] in this example would dictate how long you can run the 5000w draw for until the battery storage is empty.

 

Performing a load profile should be the first step for any off grid retailer. This will allow the off grid designer to go through all your devices in detail while recommending a system which will handle your peak loads while sustaining enough battery capacity to cover your needs with minimal to no generator input required. 

​

Get these steps wrong and it can be a very unpleasant experience. 

​
